Workshops and sprints

Imagine alternatives.
Make a useful
next move.

Focused engagements to explore future possibilities, redesign business models and test what could work.

Bring a real question from your business, institution or portfolio. We combine research, foresight and design to help your team make a clearer decision and take the work forward.

Three starting points

Start with the decision
you need to make.

Each engagement is scoped around a live question, with preparation, facilitation and defined outputs. Durations below are indicative; research access, participant availability and the agreed scope determine the timetable.

01

Futures and Strategy Workshop

Two facilitated days

Preparation and synthesis included

Discuss this engagement

A useful starting point

You need to make a strategic choice, but emerging change and uncertainty could alter what matters.

Who it is for

Leadership teams, governments, development partners and funders shaping a strategy, programme or portfolio.

What we work on

Explore signals of change, challenge assumptions and develop plausible future scenarios. Identify a desirable direction, stress-test strategic options and choose priorities for action.

What you take forward

  • A focused signals and assumptions brief
  • A set of future scenarios and strategic implications
  • Prioritised choices and a next-step action brief

What we need from you

A named decision, relevant plans or research, a sponsor and a team able to influence the next step.

Scenarios support judgement; they do not predict what will happen. Extensive field research and implementation are scoped separately.

02

Regenerative Business Model Sprint

Three to four weeks

Focused research and two to three working sessions

Discuss this engagement

A useful starting point

You see potential for a different way to serve customers, earn revenue or strengthen the people and places your business depends on.

Who it is for

Existing businesses, social enterprises and portfolio teams reconsidering their model, operations or route to market.

What we work on

Understand customer needs and the current model. Explore alternative propositions, pricing, delivery, partnerships and value flows. Examine commercial assumptions alongside livelihoods, participation and effects on living systems.

What you take forward

  • Customer and current-model insights
  • Alternative models and a recommended direction
  • Commercial assumptions and regenerative design criteria
  • A prioritised experiment plan for the next decision

What we need from you

Access to customers and relevant operating information, an accountable business lead and a realistic route to testing.

The sprint produces a model and test plan. Revenue growth, investment and regenerative outcomes depend on implementation and evidence over time.

03

Prototype and Validation Sprint

Four to six weeks

A bounded prototype or experiment and decision review

Discuss this engagement

A useful starting point

You have a proposition worth exploring, but a critical assumption about demand, use, delivery or viability remains untested.

Who it is for

Businesses and programme teams with a defined concept, access to relevant participants and resources for a small test.

What we work on

Identify the assumption that matters most, agree what would count as evidence and design a proportionate test. Build a prototype, gather feedback or observe behaviour, then revise the proposition and assess the next step.

What you take forward

  • A test brief with success and stop criteria
  • A prototype or experiment within the agreed scope
  • Findings, limitations and recommended revisions
  • A reasoned decision to proceed, adapt or stop

What we need from you

A focused concept, a decision owner, participant access and an agreed testing budget.

Validation is specific to the assumptions and context tested. Production software, clinical testing, hardware development and full rollout require their own specialist scope.

Tailored to your brief

Other ways to
move the work forward.

One to two facilitated days, with preparation

Systems and Regenerative Opportunities Workshop

Map relationships, resources, value flows and decision power. Identify a bounded opportunity and a prioritised intervention brief.

Three to four weeks

Customer and Service Design Sprint

Investigate a focused customer need, co-design a service concept and develop a journey, operating requirements and a prototype for feedback.

Two to three weeks

Transition and Implementation Sprint

Work backwards from a desirable direction to develop a roadmap, responsibilities, resource needs and measures for review.

These can be commissioned separately or combined with a core offer. The proposal defines the research, participation and outputs needed.

Shape a tailored engagement

How we work

Grounded in people.
Connected to systems.

Design research and human-centred design help us understand lived realities and develop alternatives with the people affected. Strategic foresight and futures thinking explore change and desirable directions. Systems thinking and regenerative design connect those choices to the relationships, resources and capabilities that sustain a place.

For a business, this means examining customer value, revenue, costs and delivery alongside livelihoods, participation, how value is shared and effects on living systems. We agree meaningful criteria and examine trade-offs rather than treating a new model as automatically regenerative.

Questions we could explore

Apply the work
to your context.

Illustrative briefs for food, health and wellbeing, and energy businesses. Each needs a defined place, audience and decision.

Food futures

How could a food business reduce loss, improve producer livelihoods and test a commercially workable route to market?

Health and wellbeing futures

How could a wellbeing service improve access, customer experience and delivery while testing an affordable model?

Energy futures

How could an energy enterprise test adoption, service reliability and affordability with a defined customer group?

We also discuss briefs in education, learning and work, and cities. Relevant sector expertise and delivery capacity are confirmed for each assignment.

Commissioning the work

A focused brief.
An agreed scope.

Businesses can commission work for their own teams. Governments, development partners and funders can commission an institutional or portfolio engagement.

01

Share the question

Tell us what you need to understand, decide or test, who is involved and what resources and timing are available.

02

Agree the engagement

We confirm fit, expertise and availability, then propose methods, participants, outputs, timetable, fees and responsibilities.

03

Work and review

We carry out the agreed work, document findings and limitations, and review the decision and next action with your team.

Practical questions

Before we begin.

What is the difference between a workshop and a sprint?

A workshop is a facilitated working session for shared understanding, options and priorities. A sprint combines preparation, focused research, working sessions and synthesis over several weeks; testing is included where agreed. The scope specifies the evidence each can produce.

Can you work with our team in person?

Yes. Engagements can be designed for in-person, remote or blended delivery. Location, participant access, travel and accessibility requirements are agreed in the proposal.

How are engagements priced?

We quote for the complete scope, including preparation, facilitation, agreed research or testing, synthesis and handover. Participant numbers, location, specialist input and prototype costs affect the fee. Payment stages and any additional expenses are agreed before work begins.

Can a funder commission work for several ventures?

Yes. A funder or development partner can commission a portfolio engagement. We agree shared learning, venture-specific work, selection criteria and confidentiality, with clear outputs for each participant.

What happens after the engagement?

You receive the agreed outputs and a decision review. Follow-on research, testing, advisory or implementation can be commissioned through a separate scope. There is no automatic continuation commitment.

Bring a live question

What would help you
take the next step?

Share your challenge, preferred engagement, location and timing. We will explore a useful scope with you.
